Governance

Governance at Olde Columbine is a whole school meeting in which we have democracy. In fact governance is almost a better and more accurate democracy then America itself. What we vote on comes from the people for the people. When we vote everyone is equal and majority wins the vote. In America for certain things majority wins but with other things it has to be passed through different legislations and offices and then they get to decide. Therefore it’s not for the people by the people.

Everyone one, teachers and students are equal; if all the teachers don’t want something but the students do, the proposal gets passed into the handbook. Governance and its’ democracy is good for OCHS. If someone doesn’t care and doesn’t vote oh well it’s their choice. We believe in individuality, therefore with the democracy part people are able to care or not, to get upset, to invoke in some conversation about something, find out about something.

In America though; people are able to do all that but to only and extent. Lets look at it as if, legislation is the teachers and the citizens are the students. A vote took place, and majority said yes, so it get’s passed to legislation and they don’t think it’s the right thing at least not right now so it gets thrown out. America says it’s by the people for the people, yet it doesn’t feel like it.

As you can see America is mischievous in many ways. They go around certain things. Also they’ll make a law people want, but yet there is another law contradicting that law. At OCHS when they say it’s student lead, run and for the students they are not kidding. All rules are basically made by the students to help students, as long as they abide by state laws. All in all governance is an ideal democracy; granted it can get hectic but what would be democracy without that.

The Olde Columbine norms seem almost pointless. Not many students even know the norms. Also some don’t even know the meaning behind them. The norms are just common courtesy. If you truly think about this is all true. So really, how useful are they?

Most students that go to OCHS; if asked what are the six Olde Columbine norms? They’d probably say I don’t know same with the teachers. The meaning behind some of them aren’t clear; like embrace individuality does it mean be different/be your self, or accept some one no matter what. If you think about it the norms are just what happens to most people when the mature and grow up.

Owning your actions you have to when you’re an adult. Helping and embracing individuality just happens. Kindness and consideration is something most people do anyway just to get through life. Honestly not many confront wrongdoers, it’s called the cops these days. Strive for knowledge if they want knowledge they will and if they don’t they wont its’ that simple.

After reading this put major thought into it. How much of what has been said true? How much of what has been said false? They are apart of what makes this school. They are great don’t get me wrong, but know one truly knows them or thinks about them when they go through their day. All in all there really are no norms, it’s just common day courtesy.

I'm talking with some teachers right now about how to use technology in the classroom and don't think there's anyone in the world with better ideas about that than y'all.  I'd like to beef up Creative Writing with technology.  Here're my goals:

- Share what we're doing with the cyber community.  Seems like workshop is pretty useful but we're kind of selfish about it.  How can we share with teachers, students, parents, principals, professors...

- Document what's happening. Surely this hasn't happened to anyone reading this but at some point, some student has actually misplaced his or her readers responses and had some difficulty with the end-of-quarter reflection.  I know that suprises you, but it's happened:)  This'd help y'all see how you grow as readers and as writers.

- Provide more opportunity to write and get feedback about your writing.  One of the biggest complaints about this class is that y'all don't get to do more than one workshop.  Some of you remember when I tried to move the workshop into the moodle - it was a bit of a disaster.  Do you think there is an online format that would allow you to do a traditional readers response?

So - if you're paying attention, please give me some feedback.  What ideas do you have that can help me meet these goals?

Oh, and check out this poetry blog.  It's authored by Loveland's alternative poets.

She's beautiful, loves dancing and painting too

She works hard, everyday attends to school

She loves the time with her family and friends

And prays for it to never have an end

She adores a boy and falls in love

Always feels as if he's from above

Feeling high never wanting to come down

They talk for hours about the world around

It all seems so perfect without a second guess

Love is all she sees, nothing more, nothing less

As time passes by, day after day

Right before her eyes their love begins to slip away

She feels a difference with the connection between

She is no longer feeling like a royal queen

Where is their love going? She begins to wonder

She doesn't enjoy the feeling of going under

A phone call comes to her from a friend

What she hears she can't comprehend

She feels disgusted as the walls begin to spin

Her control of emotions starts to grow thin

She slowly presses end on her cell phone

Feels the whole time she's been with a clone

"It can't be him, he is against every lie"

She tells herself as she feels an urge to cry

This is why he always slipped away

She sees the games he wants to play

He was unfaithful and betrayed her

The anger within her begins to transfer

Now she understands what she must do

She knows that she can make it through

She forgets his promises and leaves

Respect and truth is what she believes

He disrespected her with what he did

While she was carrying his own kid

He lost the truth that he swore to hold

Withholding truth is just as cold

After all this she puts him behind

She begins new while feeling undefined

She holds her hed up high for she knows

When her child looks at her its strength she shows

Imagine

Lying there day by day

Doing nothing

Starring, eyes slightly open

But open to what?

Blankness, more of this word called 'nothing'

Hard to sleep

Hard to dream

The only time for my mind to be distracted

Yet I imagine the same every night

Tubes leading in

Tubes leading out

A cold room

Eyes locked on the center

Ears open but I only hear what  I want

Clock tends to move fast, but body moves s l o w

I pray for something new. . .

I'm sure we all do

They say to give is better than to receive

Well here I am arms open on my knees begging to give

Give my legs, to walk

Give my voice, to talk

Give my lungs, to breathe

No one would want to be in his shoes

Yet here I am willing  to trade it all

Their is an overwhelming force pressed upon me to drop out. my reason are im already legal drop out age and i feel if you cant do something right dont do it it at all. i feel like im not ready to be successful in school considering i havent yet been continusly good in school i start off good then slowly decrease in academic performance. and besides its not that big of a deal more than 60% of high school students drop out by their junior year. so what is keeping the rest of the percentage from dropping out is it that they love school is it they are afraid to tell their parents or what?

i try not to think about how the further the generation goes on the more spoiled and rich or drug addicted we get.

these kids seem to learn from ciggarette burns in the way that many parents abuse their children or do illicit drugs around or with them

they also learn from fast cars in the sense of they always need the best newest most biggest extravagant object.

they learn from fast women as if all women are loose and should be treated as an object instead of a person

and cheap drinks like its ok to do grugs alcohol ect.

and my favorite quote "all these asphyxiated self medicated take the white pill youll feel all right."

this is saying kids these days arent afraid to try anything, i would know.

so next time you think about having kids think what moral values are you going to teach them. are you going to be the cigarette burn parent or the good parent that your kid actually didnt die from drug overdose suicide  alcohol consumption. or drunken car crash. or ended up in prison from a gang fight or from selling drugs or killing someone.

we have a thing called governance where we all meet together in one room with the whole school and we have room to breath i mean how cool is that. what other school can u do that at. we vote on things from our schhol such asanything from attendance policies to people who dis obey our laws. but we need a better way of doing things because we always end up not coming to agreement or just tableing the whatever we are agreeing on or not agreeing on its a weird thing but its like a community we all come together as one and control our stuff

i love this school its people are sensitive seem to care and always give you a cigarette when you need one but THEY DONT LISTEN. how hard is it to cross the ditch off school property when you need to smoke if you walk all that way to smoke you sure can just hop over the ditch. or how hard is it to put your cigarettes in the ash trays and trash cans. we have two. thats what the school used their money for so you wouldnt messy up the ditch. also if the ditch is such a problem and the school thinks its so dirty then why dont just do the easy thing go to the city and ask for a fire permit and burn out the ditch. Ya sure it will just get dirty again but you can just keep burning it out. and if its still that big of a problem just fill the ditch with cement and close off the ditch its not that hard. THE SCHOOL AND KIDS ARE JUST SITTING HERE AND NOT DOING ANYTHING!!!  like my grandpa said if you dont vote you cant complain i know its not the same thing but it makes sense dont it. im not sitting here on the other side of the computer saying im not guilty of throwing my cig on the ground but i learned i just wanna say if your not evasive action then stop complaining i think you should actually do something be the good person you are and be a part of your school and communtiy

December 09, 2008

This piece was done in my creative writing class as part of our scary stories projects. I did this piece to show that there are events that happen in real life that are scary and that really do happen. Also the thing that inspired me to write something like this that I used to watch the crime T.V. show that showed what the mastermind criminals write down and how they think. It interested me so I wanted to put my mind to the test of writing something like that with fictional people. In this there are a few disturbing things that happen. My teacher knows that I was writing a piece like this and allowed me to do it.

Crime T.V. Report

Warning: These are some of the few journal entries done by a psychotic individual who is currently in prison for the rape and murder of little Lesley Oakborn.

First entry August 13, 2013:

Watching the girls one by one as they talk about cute boys and going shopping while coming out of school. I pick one out. Her, I choose her the one with the black hair and small round face. Her name does not matter now. I will figure it out soon enough.

Second entry October 13, 2013:

Her favorite color is purple. Purple everything, everything including her skirt and her cute shirt with purple and pink hearts on it. I must have her she is so pretty.

Third entry October 15, 2013:

Alright her mom drives a brown minivan with dark tinted windows. So after school I am going to trick her into thinking I am a friend of her moms, who just came to pick her up. She will be mine; I just have to wait till 2:30. What time is it now? 11:30 why do I have to wait so long?

Fourth entry October 15, 2013:

She is wearing a purple tank top with a big pink teddy bear on the front today along with her little shorts. My, she looks pretty today. I won’t mind taking her today.

Fifth entry October 16, 2013:

I have her in my possession. It was so easy she didn’t scream or anything. She really believed until we came up to my house and I put handcuffs on her that I was her mother’s friend. Now that she is tied up and blind folded she is mine to do with as I wish.

Sixth entry October 18, 2013:

She is so loud. Why won’t she stop crying? That’s all she ever does. She cried the entire time I touched her and kissed up and down her neck. I asked why she was crying, she wouldn’t answer me. So I took her pants off and did what I had planned on doing from the start.

Lesley Oakborn’s body was found in the basement of Herald Perison’s house on October 20. After receiving an anonymous tip that some noise, which sounded like some sort of crying or sobbing came from the house. Once the police had a warrant they went and started searching Herald’s house. As they went down into Herald’s basement he followed them very casually. Once the body was visible they could see that she was chained up to a wall with slit wrists and throat. Herald then began ranting, “She wouldn’t shut up when I told her to, so I made her.” Herald was later prosecuted and put in jail for life.

Shallow breathing can't be heard through all the screaming.  Insanity pleads in those eyes glanceing down at a mangled clump of meat, or child if you wish.  They've never been people to him.

Note: Ok so I decided to break it down since I was not getting any comments. This is half of chapter 1, and the forward, which isnt that long, but it is still more than most people like to read. Even if you read just the forward, I would appreciate any feedback you have to offer... Eg: I liked this part, I didnt like this, it would be better if you said this instead of this, or any facts you have to offer about the setting (yea I know it is fiction, but there is alot about Elementals on the web from Greek Mythology).

>Forward<
Who heals the earth when fire destroys it?
I do.
Who gives life to a seedling brand new?
I do.
Who caused the contract of time to appear?
I did.
Who hides in wait for a lion to draw near?
I do.
I am the last of a race thought extinct
And I come reborn when white snow falls on Brink
It has been a legend for many thousands of years that a child of the earth
waits in hiding for a superior to come. And that we will only see her when
snow covers the mountain, Brink. The legend has been told to the children of
the villages as a bed time story for as long as it has been alive. Mostly
children pass it off as myth and fantasy, because they know there hasn't
been a single snowflake on that mountain since before the superiors rose up
and took charge of the land.
It happened in a great battle in ancient times that the people of the lion
kindred challenged the Elementals for the right to superiority. The war
lasted for three hundred years. The lion kindred battled the elements and
every last strength the Elementals could conjure. Then finally, after almost
all the Elementals had been destroyed, the fighting ceased, and the lions
arose as the superiors. No answer had been given to man as to why the war
ended. It was as though a piece of the story had been left out, or hidden.
Some of the villagers assumed the Elementals had become too weak, and didn't
want to risk extinction so they surrendered. Others think it has something
to do with why there are no longer any Earth elementals, so to speak. But
what ever the reason, the Lion kindred now rule the kingdom of Talbara, and
the Elementals, controllers of wind, fire, earth, and water, have become as
inferior as the humans…
Chapter 1
Down by the Water's Shore
Nestled in the soft grass on the bank of Still Waters, the village of Arid
stands much the same as it has for hundreds of years. The children of the
water sign play peacefully in the streets as the market of trade transpires
every morning, and the busy villagers move briskly about from isle to isle
browsing the stock.
Beyond tents and tapestries, herbs in bunches, and women calling, "fresh
fish for sale!", or, "Shells caught this morning!" an old woman sits holding
a staff of great beauty. The long, white stem is covered in harsh blue
carvings while the tip is embellished with jewels of solid clear water. The
hands wrapped around it are smooth and supple, not the hands one would
expect to see on such an ancient body, although nothing about her looks old.
The features of her face are young and soft, and her pale blue skin has a
reflective quality about it that makes her look as though she just stepped
out of the nearby ocean. The long garment she wears is velvety and dark
concealed behind a deep blue veil of gossamer wrapping her loosely. Long
silver hair drapes over her shoulders, and down into her lap, resting in
little swirls that would remind one of waves on a shore. Her thin frame sits
tall and unmoving, while her black eye glint slowly back and forward seeing
all before her, and taking in the action.
Commotion arises from the gate, and the way the other Water Elementals
react she first thinks there must be a superior at the entrance. Fleetingly,
a strong gust of wind comes about and there before her is the bent figure of
a seemingly young man. He seams almost transparent, disappearing entirely in
places and then reappearing rapidly. Just as suddenly as the wind had
started, it stops, and he becomes corporeal. He is a Wind Elemental.
"Siren," He spoke softly as if he was telling a secret he didn't want the
people of the village, who were all intently staring (some with confusion),
to hear, "Siren, the wind has changed, and clouds from the north roll in
fast. Storm clouds. Its time."
"Clouds have come from the north before; they always disappear before they
reach the Fire village." Siren, the Water Elemental spoke with certainty.
He stands straight, and replies "They have past the boundaries; they
darken as they move towards the range. You know what is happening, the
council must reconvene."
"It is time then. All these years of waiting and it happens on the spring
equinox," She smiles lightheartedly.
"It is the day of renewing life, it would make sense," He smiles back. Then
with nothing more than a wink, the Wind Elemental disappears back through
the gate with a great gust of wind, making many a market chicken flit and
flutter with excitement. The gate closes and the people of the water sign
stand with eyes wide and faces of curiosity pointing at Siren.
She stands up slowly, and searches the crowd for other Water Elementals.
Then like the crash of a wave her song rings out:
"Come away with me water of sea. The council on land has reconvened."
With that the Water Elementals swiftly vanishes through the gate, leaving
the human villagers stunned, and excited. Not knowing what is happening,
they start to whisper. Only one girl had been close enough to hear the
conversation between the Wind Elemental and Siren. And while everybody is
busy discussing the commotion, and what they had just seen this young,
human, girl slips through the gate unnoticed, and follows the trail of
disturbed ground left behind by the quickly disappearing Elementals. She
doesn't know why, but something seamed familiar about the energy in the air,
and the feeling of desperation brought on by the stressed face of her
village leader.

Stargate Atlantis needs our help! Sign the petition!

I’m such a fan of Stargate Atlantis. I watch it religiously and I know all the scenes! It’s in my system and I just can’t imagine life without this show on TV. Have you heard? MGM has already announced that they are going to end the show after their 5th season. Why? It’s probably the best sci-fi show on TV to date! Why cancel a show that has a very solid audience that watches it religiously the same as I do?

Obviously, the producers know how popular Stargate Atlantis is and thought that it’s just too good for TV and should be made into a movie. Great! Who wouldn’t want to watch a movie version of their favorite sci-fi TV series? But why would they cancel the show just to pave the way for its movie series? There’s too much here and the purpose is not to benefit the fans but so they could fatten their pockets even more! Come on now! Why hurt us after we supported your show? It is just not fair!

I am so happy to see many fans who decided to start a petition. It’s a great idea! It’s time for us to save our favorite TV show. Let us save Atlantis! It’s our time to be a part of the show’s story. Now is our time to save Atlantis, Of course it’s not like we have to pack our bags and train to be one of these futuristic scientists but it’s time for us to unite and save the show! These petitions are calling for all the Stargate Atlantis fans and supporters to sign their names so our voices would be heard by SGA’s executive producers. It’s not fair! We have to show them that what they plan on doing is really not fair!

Friday nights would no longer be fun. I usually prepare myself after dinner and find a comfortable place in front of the TV in anticipation of this show. I look forward to Friday nights all the time! Without SGA, what’s there to look forward to? It’s sad… tragic! Looking forward for the next movie is like waiting for your birthday each year!

I’m just one of the many disappointed fans of SGA. These executive producers should reconsider. Should we boycott and show them our disappointment? But then we’d be missing more of their awesome shows. We should all support the circulating of the online petition asking for these executive producers to change their mind and start thinking about the 6th season. The 5th season of Stargate Atlantis is a lot better than the previous seasons and we are expecting for the 6th. It can’t just end here. It’s just too good to end.

SciFi will have nothing to boast about after their station won’t have Stargate Atlantis for their audience. Come on now, what’s left to watch in that channel after SGA?

Would it have been different if they have used a different channel to show Stargate Atlantis? SG1 was a great show and it was canceled prematurely as well. I was a die-hard fanatic of SG1 also and I was so disappointed when they announced that my favorite show on TV was about to say it’s goodbye. I was sad but I thank God for Stargate Atlantis. At least, SG1 had 10 seasons so I was able to enjoy watching it for years! Stargate Atlantis only had 5 episodes and it’s even better than SG1 but why only 5 episodes? Can the executive producers answer this question for us?

Why the sudden death for our favorite sci-fi shows? They can cancel all those other boring shows on Sci-Fi if they want to, but why cancel the most popular one? It doesn’t really make sense to me. I will miss the characters whom I already grown to love. What will happen to them after this? Will they be on the movie version of Stargate Atlantis? I hope so. But, still that’s just not right. They deserve to be on Air every Friday! I am not saying that they don’t deserve to be on the silver screen. Heck, I’d die to watch the movie version of SGA but I just can’t stand the fact that they are canceling the show.

I’m sure many would agree that there’s not much on TV right now that is worth watching. I don’t watch TV on most days except for the news and some sports shows but that’s just about it. No new shows interest me that much anymore except for Stargate Atlantis. I’m a sucker for sci-fi shows but I am very choosy as well. Sci-fi shows can be really boring when the storyline is boring. SGA has an awesome storyline that caught me right from the first time I watched it. I even have DVDs of the shows so I could watch them over and over again. I’m a die hard fan and I am here, asking all of you die hard SGA fans out there, to support the online petition. Please, please, let’s support our favorite show.

I’m done voicing out my opinion but I’m still not through with my disappointment and I will continue to fight for my favorite show. Its one great show that we just have to keep on air. Whether or not we’d be successful, at least we can say that we did our part in keeping it on air. If the executive producers won’t listen to our plight, I bet it’s time for us to start looking for other shows that may interest us and just wait for the movie series then. It’s unfair and disappointing but I will never say never. I will sign as many online petitions and start a petition asking my fellow fans to support our loved team of scientists led by Major John Sheppard.

You gave us a great show SCI-Fi, please don’t just take it away from us. It will break many hearts and will disappoint even more. Hope you’ll make the right decision and keep the show on air!

I am EVIL.

The dark prince reincarnate.

the whisper leading you to take another hit,

another life.

This is the scream of an abusive drunk

playing the piano with a little girls face

crush, crush, blood spills

i am that sick crimson

when it dances on your blade

i can taste the hate

i breathe this hate

as you peal flesh from your face

crying out for someone to save you

i am the thought that casts you too deep down the rabbit whole

to an abyss, that, in truth

is less scary then living in my mind.

They called you strong

You called me weak

They said you're tough

You said I'm meek

But you wont cry In ront of me

You show no pain Or empathy

You put up walls You push away

You wont say help Or say please stay

You look at me You say you're fine

But I can see I'm not blind

Your smile is fake And so is your laugh

You look through me You look right past

You cant say now I need you

If you think its wrong When I do

So dont come near Dont look right past

Dont smile at me Or fake your laugh

They called you strong

I call you weak

They said your though

I say you're meek

'cause you wont cry In front of me

You show no pain, No empathy...

Alright, here's a little poetry thing I was reading around and found. I'm not sure the purpose of it other than to just write, but I thought it would be interesting and might engage a few people. It would atleast give me more to respond to than just comments under my posts.

The first poster writes a haiku in form 5-7-5, and the responder writes a 7-7. This keep alternating in '5-7-5' - '7-7' - '5-7-5' until we stop. Roger that? Now I'll let the first person who posts a comment in here respond with one, whatever topic you want, and we, the audience will try to respond in a timely manner and keep the ball rolling. First post first served, so if, by some miracle, this thread ever sees more than 1 active person at a time trying to post, just check your post and if it accidentally has someone cut in front of it, just fix your post.

Try to keep responses on topic.. if there *is* a topic.

 Set. Go.
